How do oil starters work?

The oil-cooled starters store the heat loss generated during the starting process of electric motors and slowly release it to the environment via their surface.

They are particularly suitable for machines and drives with high outputs that do not start frequently and require a slow starting frequency. In the rotor circuit of the wound electric motors, the resistance is changed successively by switching off resistors with the aid of power contactors. The resistor consists of a special cast element.

The oil in the starter serves as an energy store and insulating medium, and so the design of a starter combines the advantages of the resistance starter with those of a low-cost heat transfer medium, namely oil. This ensures efficient operation of electric motors in electrical engineering.

In addition, robust contactors ensure high operational reliability and a long service life with low maintenance requirements. This is particularly important for the reliable operation of electric motors in various machines and systems.

To protect the oil starter from external influences and ensure its longevity, a special oil paint is applied to the surface. This oil paint forms an additional protective layer that helps minimize the ingress of dust particles and protects the starter motor from moisture, especially splash water.

Thanks to their low maintenance requirements and high operational reliability, they can be used in a wide range of applications (even in dirty environments) and guarantee the longevity of the products. Our company only uses cast iron resistors with a very high storage capacity for our starting resistors.
