Power Controller

The AKGrad32 SCR power controller provides smooth and continuous control of output power to heating elements. Power control to any set point within the range is provided by thyristors that switch off or on every half cycle of the AC current (typically 10 mins).

AKGrad32 - the applications

Typical applications for the AKGrad32 include use for temperature regulation in tin bath and lehr furnaces in the glass industry (float glass) or as a controller for resistive heating load banks.

How does the AKGrad32 work?

Each SCR/Thyristor is a switching device capable of delivering fast AC full wave or phase angle power to a load. The AKGrad32 performs balanced power control with the highest accuracy for your heating process. At the same time, it guarantees optimized heater life according to the specifications of various heater manufacturers.

Thanks to its powerful 32-bit DSP processor, an AKGrad32 calculates the RMS values of voltage, current, power, and resistance for each phase in the closed loop, and compensates for the temperature response of the active material of the heating elements as well as fluctuations in the power supply.

The powerful measurement system also enables:

  • High precision control of kW, rate %, I² or U² and real time regulation as well as adjustment to power supply fluctuations;
  • Soft start by phase angle control for loads with high cold/hot variation and diagnosis in case of load failure;
  • Patented thyristor-firing for protection of power supplies and transformers.
  • Protection against overcurrent peaks, instantaneous regulation against voltage dips or load surges;
  • Patented synchronization algorithm for energy savings and reduction of harmonic network feedback with the SYNCHRO function (optional).

Delivery

The AKGrad32 is supplied as a plug-and-play solution and can be installed as a stand-alone unit or as a component in a control cabinet. The integrated cooling systems are optimized in terms of size and noise.
