The conductance is the reciprocal of the ohmic resistance of a conductor. The symbol is G (G = 1/R) and the unit is the Siemens [G] = S. Per definition, a conductor has a conductance of 1 S when a current of I = 1 A flowing through this conductor results in a voltage reduction of U = 1 Volt (1 S = 1 A / 1 V). The total conductivity of conductors arranged in parallel is equivalent to the sum of the individual conductivities. The total resistance of several resistors arranged in parallel is thus calculated using the individual conductance values: 1/Rtot = 1/R1 + 1/R2…+ 1/Rn.
